What is the cost of Ford Driving Skills for Life training?

There is no cost for the hands-on or online training. Ford Philanthropy provides the necessary funding for all training.

What is the alternative to attending a hands-on training?

An online Academy is a great alternative to the hands-on program. Visit the link below for online training for your teen. https://www.drivingskillsforlife.com/training/academy. You can also add your email to our notification list to be alerted when a hands-on training event is coming to your community.

Do parents need to attend the hands-on program with their teen?

While it is not a requirement, it is strongly recommended parents attend the program with their teen.

Are vehicles provided for teens to drive?

Yes, all of the vehicles will be provided for the training.

Does a participant need a drivers permit or a license to participate?

Yes. Participants driving the vehicles much have either a drivers permit or a drivers license.

What is the typical age of the hands-on training participants?

The typical age is between 15-22.

What results can we expect from sending my teen to the hands-on training?

While results vary by teen, we know that 94 percent of all crashes are due to driver behavior, so we focus on changing that behavior. However, learning to drive successfully is a lifelong learning process, and this is just a step in the process.

Does this training count towards Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) hours?

GDL laws vary by state and this training should be considered to support the broader safe driving effort. Click here for more information on GDL Laws provided by the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA).
